Todia Thrift launches shop

In a country where the unemployment rate is exceedingly high, many graduates are left broken and hopeless after searching for work for years. Sometimes the dreams turn to mist after having so many doors shut in their faces. Todia has since been opening some doors for herself, and will be opening one more door when she officially launches her new shop in Windhoek West, Old Location, Purcell Street, this Thursday, 01 July, from 10:30 to 18:30.

After graduating from the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) with degree in Science (with a major in Biology and minor Chemistry), Todia could not get a job. But she saw an opportunity, and turned it to her advantage. In 2017 she imported some items for herself, and a friend asked to order for them too, and before she knew it she was taking orders for people who wanted to buy items from outside the country ranging from clothing items, to video recording equipment to secondhand items. Todia Accessories was born. She took the metaphorical lemons, and made lemonade. So to speak.

By 2021, Todia, born Gustodia Mwanyekange, was running a fulltime importing business from the Old Brewers. She has since been importing from all over the world, including Asia, Europe, South Africa and Angola. Pricing and quality matter in this business. To date Todia Accessories has divisions under it: Todia Hairtique (hair), Todia shoestique (shoes), second hand/vintage clothes (Todia Thrift), and Todia Intimates (lounge wear and bikinis).

Due to the pandemic, she had to move out of Old Brewers as there was a limit to the number of clients to allow onto the premises. Todias Accessories is mainly online based business, but on Thursday, will be opening their Todia Imports shop where clients can expect to find vintage pieces, wigs and other items at lower than usual prices.
