NAMIBIA’S FIRST ONLINE VOCATIONAL SCHOOL: An incredibly easy method that works for all

In June 2020, Parastus Nepolo, the Managing Director and Founder of Millenium Refrigeration and Electrical services, established Millenium Vocational Digital Training Institute (MVDTI), the first ever innovative school that aims at creating personalized, online project-based learning where students can register for different online TVET courses.

Speaking to Biashara newspaper this week, Millenium’s founder, Parastus Nepolo said the institutions’ goal is to inspire its students to define their purpose in life, mission, and legacy while integrating the Technical and Vocational Education and Training goals through online learning.

“The Covid-19 pandemic showed us that education is no longer a luxury item. It is rapidly becoming a requirement of everyday life. The trend is bound to increase in the years to come, as more and more services migrate to digital platforms. As a product of the Namibian TVET system, I understand that TVET is recognized as that aspect of education which leads to the acquisition of practical and applied skills that will enable its recipients to secure employment in any particular occupation. That’s why my investment in the online initiative was in perfect harmony, with the country’s focus on science and technology, as the key drivers of economic transformation” Nepolo said.

MVDTI which is already registered with the Namibia Training Authority (NTA), expects its first intake for Air-conditioning and Refrigeration programme, level 1 to 4, to start in February 2021, however, the institution has several other short courses open for enrollment. The courses will be offered using the NTA curriculum but using the CBET system.

“Even though our courses are online-based, MVDTI has a physical workshop in Ongwediva which will aid students with practical tasks and assessments to ensure that they are well equipped for the market. We also understand that technical skills cannot easily be acquired in a vacuum but rather in a well-established and functional workshop equipped with the right tools and machines for effective implementation of the program” he added.

Applications for enrollment at MVDTI are open until February 2021, however applicants are strongly encouraged to submit their application before the December holidays. Application can be done through the institutions’ website at http://www.mvdti-tech.edu.na/ .
